IES Council 2006/2007
IES is pleased to introduce the following Council Members for session 2006/2007.

IES Council has developed a five-year strategic plan (2006 - 2011) to position IES to be the voice of all Engineers in Singapore and to uphold the image and status of IES and its members.

The new Council will continue to focus on the following roles to add value to its members and the engineers' community in Singapore:

  • Representing the Singapore engineers nationally and internationally
  • Advancing the knowledge and expertise of engineers
  • Upholding the status and image of engineers
  • Providing a platform where engineers gather for social, business professional and career development

IES Membership

IES membership has grown steadily since its humble beginning in 1966. To date, IES has a membership of close to 8,000 and is still growing steadily!

IES seeks to build a membership base that is closer to the profile of engineers in Singapore. Therefore, IES will be having a special membership recruitment promotion from October to November 2006.

So, recommend your engineer friends to sign-up now to enjoy the special rate!


IES recognised as a "Friend of Water"

IES was recognized by PUB as a “Friend of Water” for its contributions in promoting and practising effective earth control measures on 29 September 2006.

Dr Amy Khor, Senior Parliamentary Secretary, Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources graced the event held at the Sheraton Towers Hotel.



IES Role in Promoting Awareness about Water Conservation
The Erosion Control Interest Group in IES was formed to raise the professionalism and profile of environmental engineering in the international market.  In addition, the group also helps to create clean and clear waterway in Singapore by promoting awareness on erosion control measures in the construction industry.

One of these initiatives is the Professional Course on Erosion Control.  This specialized course is conducted to certify professional engineers as Qualified Erosion Control Professionals (QECPs). Since the course started in October 2004, there are 54 QECPs have been accredited and 31 more will be certified by the end of 2006.


NP-IES Bridge Challenge 2006

IES is proud to be the sponsor of the NP-IES Bridge Challenge 2006 for the 5th consecutive year. A total of 44 schools participated in this competition on 9 September 2006 at the Convention Centre of Ngee Ann Polytechnic. Participants were to build a bridge model, which was tested on the day of competition. It was indeed an experience to witness the innovative bridge designs by the young generation!

Er. Tan Seng Chuan, President of IES was the Guest-of-Honour for the event.  Er. Tan inspired many young and enthusiastic talents to join the engineering profession.  He also highlighted that without the skills and ingenuity of engineers, all structures would not exist at all!

Engineering Year 2005 - 2006

The National Committee of Engineering Organisation (NCEO) of IES embarked on a year-long programme, “Engineering Year 2005/2006” to highlight the importance and impact of engineering in our lives. The key objective of this programme was to engage the general public and junior college and polytechnic students seeking engineering as a career choice.

Dr. Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for the Environment and Water Resources was invited to officiate the opening ceremony held at the epicanter of science and technoology, Singapore Science Centre on 17 Jun 2005.

Besides raising general public awareness for the engineering field and its profound impact on various aspects of human lives, the year-long programme also sought to stimulate, encourage and nurture the passion for engineering among the youths.

The Asean Academy of Engineering and Technology will organize the "2006 International Energy Conference" in conjunction with CAFEO 24.
